Relining a road tanker barrel: tank lining for corrosion and chemical protection

Our heat-cured and cold-cured coatings for ISO tank containers and road tank barrels protect these delicate assets against corrosion and the chemical attack of over 2000 media types.

SÄKAPHEN recently completed the relining of a road tanker barrel for customer Vervaeke, which was highly satisfied with our results.

The barrel was over 11 meters long and almost 2 meters in diameter. It had a capacity of 28.000 liters. It had 3 compartments, divided by internal baffle walls characterized by relatively small openings.

The challenges posed by this project were operational.

The barrel had to be dismounted from the road tanker’s chassis because grit blasting, coating and baking could harm the chassis itself.
The old coating had to be removed. Unfortunately, it was partly very rigid. Moreover, the barrel had been touched up with various linings over time.
No pyrolysis could be performed as the barrel had a decorative paint job on the external side of the wall, which had to be safeguarded to avoid costly reworking.
The barrel was uninsulated: as a result, we had to modify our curing technology, conceived for insulated tanks and road tanker barrels precisely to avoid removing the insulation for lining/relining, thus eliminating the related costs.

Also thanks to the preliminary preparation operations performed by Vervaeke in its workshop – as we always say, preparation is of the essence in any surface finishing project – SÄKAPHEN managed to overcome all these difficulties and reline this road tanker barrel, much to the satisfaction of the customer.
