Si 17 E: the right lining for contact with flammable media
SÄKAPHEN Si 17 E
At the end of 2023, one of our clients – a major chemical company based in Germany – approached us with a clear request: our Si 17 E coating, among other products from our range of linings and coatings, was included in their specifications for a project.
The task? The tube-side lining of a heat exchanger with two water boxes in contact with a corrosive, gaseous medium.
The challenge? The gas is likely flammable.
The solution? Our baked phenolic product Si 17 E, which is electrically conductive. As a hydrophobic, single-component, phenolic-based, thermosetting and heat-cured lining, it is chemically resistant to various liquid and gaseous media, including organic and inorganic acids, salt solutions, oils and greases, and acidic to weakly alkaline liquids with a maximum pH value of 8. Si 17 E is resistant to water vapor diffusion (≤ ΔT 85°C). and once polymerized is fully machinable.
But that’s not all: thanks to an electrical volume resistance below 107Ω, SÄKAPHEN Si 17 E is also perfect for the lining of containers and process vessels that store and transport chlorinated hydrocarbons and flammable liquids, classified as dangerous according to class AI / AII and B and water endangering media. A specific resistance of ρ <107Ω is indeed crucial to prevent electrostatic charge, often caused by repeated filling and emptying cycles, and ensure maximum operational safety.
For us, it was a great satisfaction to be chosen directly by this major manufacturer.
For our client, above all, it was an assured win.
